Arsenal Opinion: Yannick Carrasco is the answer to Emery’s problems

According to a recent report by The Sun, Belgian World Cup star Yannick Carrasco is being linked with a potential summer move away from Dalian Yifang with Premier League giants Arsenal said to be interested in the youngster’s signature.

Although his time in China hasn’t been an outright success, he has shown glimpses of his quality. He has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League in the past well with multiple clubs formerly linked with the Belgian.

It has been suggested that the Gunners have been long-time admirers of the 25-year-old’s talents and considering that their current team only consists of one recognised top-quality winger should be worrying indeed.

Alex Iwobi remains the only winger available for selection by Unai Emery and although Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been deployed there as well, he is much happier playing down the middle.

Emery has even had to resort to playing star striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang on the flank at times with Alexandre Lacazette leading the line alone. This certainly hasn’t been quite as effective as when they both play together up-front.

The addition of a top quality winger is just what Arsenal need to freshen things up going forward and finally put a solid title challenge again.

Their season was riddled with individual errors costing games and the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Stephan Lichsteiner have become the laughing stock of the Premier League.

Even in the Europa League final against Chelsea, the immediate change in energy once an out and out winger was brought in Iwobi, was extremely clear to see. He even scored a special goal on the night as well.

The need for wingers at the Emirates is clear and Yannick Carrasco would definitely be a good option for them to consider in the summer. The left-winger is fairly tall and takes extremely long strides.

He uses his pace superbly well to dribble past defenders with ease and has the ability to pick out teammates with special passes into the box. His finishing skills are quite advanced and he’s scored a lot of vital goals for club and country over the years.

The Belgian has 35 caps and has 5 international goals to his name as well. He will bring a certain finesse to the Arsenal side that just seems to be lacking in most departments at this point in the time.

Although Emery will have to spend a lot of time and money fixing the Gunners’ broken defence, he’ll do well to spend some of it on Carrasco to brighten their attacking potential as well.
