Leicester City should sign Ali Reghba this January

As per a report from Daily Mail, Premier League outfit Leicester City are on the verge of making their first signing of the January transfer window in teenage striker Ali Reghba.

The 19-year-old Irishman, who plies his trade for League of Ireland outfit Bohemians, was on trial with the Foxes. And having made a solid impression during his trial period, Reghba is set to be rewarded with a contract by the Premier League outfit, with negotiations over a compensation fee with his parent club also underway.

Having started out his career with Shelbourne, the forward joined up with the Bohemians setup in March last year and went on to make his league debut in September against St. Patrick’s Athletic. And he scored a brace to fire his team to a victory.

Reghba has turned out four times for the Boh’s senior team in the 2018 term – twice in the league and one time each in the UEFA Youth League and the Challenge Cup and has gone on to score three times across all competitions.

He joined the Foxes on trial towards the end of the last year and turned out for the club’s U23s in the Premier League 2 against Everton U23 earlier this month. Against Swansea U23s, he stood out and bagged two goals, winning the penalty for Leicester’s third goal.

A versatile forward who can play anywhere across the frontline, Reghba is blessed with great technical ability and positional awareness. The 19-year-old can hold up the ball at the top and bring others into play, has the intelligence to play on the shoulders of the defenders. He possesses good finishing skills as well, making him a potent all-around striker.

Leicester have seen their form dwindle in recent matches, which has led to increasing pressure on manager Claude Puel. The lack of an effective backup for the main striker Jamie Vardy has been somewhat of an issue for the Foxes, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring just two goals in 24 appearances this season. Meanwhile, veteran Japanese striker Shinji Okazaki is yet to score in his 17 first-team matches this term.

The Foxes are in need of injecting some fresh blood in attack if they are to fortify their position in the top half of the Premier League table and Reghba could provide just that. At 19 years of age, the German-born Irishman is hardly the finished product but has shown glimpses of his immense potential in his fledgeling career.

Puel has shown in the past that he isn’t afraid to back young talent and Reghba could prove to be a valuable addition to the Leicester squad immediately and in the longer run as well.
