West Ham Match Report: West Ham 4-3 Huddersfield Town

West Ham had the final say in an enthralling contest as the Hammers beat relegation-contenders Huddersfield Town 4-3 at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.

With relegation almost looking inevitable for the Terriers, Jan Siewert’s side started off as the brighter of the two teams. However, it was West Ham who had the first real chance, Michail Antonio hitting the post from Manuel Lanzini’s cross into the box.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side drew first blood when Mark Noble scored from the post after Lanzini was brought down inside the box by Rowe. The visitors, though, found an immediate response, as Leandro Bacuna headed home the equaliser from Aaron Mooy’ corner int he 17th minute.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side continued their dominance as Huddersfield sat back and absorbed the pressure, though, the Terriers went into the lead much against the run of play.

Alex Pritchard found Lowe who crossed the ball into the box for Karlan Grant to tap it into the far right-hand corner past Lukasz Fabianski. West Ham pressed for the equaliser before half time but the Hammers lacked the quality in their final ball.

With Huddersfield leading 2-1 at the interval, the onus was on the home side to make a comeback in the second half but Leandro Bacuna gave the Hammers an early scare, testing Fabianski with a powerful shot.

Jan Siewart’s side looked set for a surprise victory when Karlan Grant scored his second goal of the game with a thunderous right-footed drive from outside the box. West Ham allowed too much room for Grant on the counter and he made the most of some loose defending.

With time running out for the Hammers, Angelo Ogbonna pulled one back for the home side with a powerful header from the edge of the six-yard box to make it 3-2 in the 75th minute.

West Ham didn’t have to wait long to find the equaliser, with substitute Samir Nasri’s perfect ball into the box from the right finding Javier Hernandez who stooped low to guide his header into the net past Jonas Lossl.
