The top seed stormed into the finals with some dominating performances. He defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili, Dominic Thiem, Jannik Sinner, and Grigor Dimitrov en route to the finals. Shapovalov got off the blocks quite quickly and raced to a 4-1 lead in the first set. He went on to win the first set 6-4. However, Medvedev’s class came to the fore in the next couple of rounds as he eventually won the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Shapovalov can hold his head high as he played quite well throughout the tournament. In fact, he became the first player to break Medvedev’s serve in the tournament.

“I am really happy,” Medvedev said. “This match was the best of the week because Denis was really playing unreal until probably 4-3 in the second set. He dropped his level by maybe two percent and I was able to use it. This is one of the best victories when you know your opponent is on top of you, but you try and stay there and do what you can.”

Medvedev won his 15th tour-level title and first since becoming a father. He dedicated the win to his wife. The 26-year-old will next be seen in action at the Paris Masters and he will be eyeing his second triumph at the tournament.
