Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray took part in a live Instagram session
World No.1 Novak Djokovic and his rival Andy Murray took part in a fun Instagram session where the pair spoke about their past meetings.
The pair have met an astonishing 36 times in their career. However, Murray hasn’t played a lot of competitive tennis in recent years.
Murray has suffered a major hip injury in recent years too, but the pair turned the clock back to their first meeting.
This took place in an international tournament when the pair were 11 years old. Djokovic cracked a joke about what went down the first time they met:
“My memories from when we first met each other were far different from your memories
“You kicked my *** man. You blew me off the court. 6-0, 6-1, I think.”
Murray agreed but went on to say that he lost the final of the tournament too. The rivals turned friends also claimed that this tournament was one of the premier U12 events which had seen the likes of Richard Gasquet and Rafael Nadal participate in it.
Djokovic certainly seemed to be taken to the cleaners as he wanted Murray to do something more:
“If you find a tape from our match, delete it.”
Djokovic getting the better of Murray
Although the pair have met 36 times and Murray might have beaten Djokovic in the first meeting, it is the Serbian has the better record.
Djokovic has 25 wins while Murray just has 11 in their head to head. Their last five meetings swung both ways with Djokovic getting the final win between them.
The Serbian defeated Murray two sets to one in Doha in 2017, and it will be interesting to see when the Brit makes a return.
There has been talk of Murray returning sometime in 2020. However, the coronavirus pandemic has shut the tennis season for now.
There is no surety when things will return to normal and Wimbledon has also been cancelled for this season.
