“Pretending to be Davis cup captains on Twitter” – Tommy Paul reacts to the Rajeev Ram-Mardy Fish saga; fans dish out criticism

published

Fans have come out in support of Rajeev Ram, who was ignored by USA’s captain Mardy Fish while making the team for USA’s quarter-final clash against Italy in the Davis Cup.

Team USA lost to Team Italy and fans began criticizing Mardy Fish for not including America’s top-ranked doubles player Rajeev Ram in the team. Ram won the US Open doubles event alongside Joe Salisbury and most recently won the doubles event at the ATP Finals.

Many fans were surprised to see the world No. 3 Rajeev Ram not making the cut for USA’s squad while a less-experienced and lower-ranked Tommy Paul featured at the event. Paul teamed with Jack Sock and lost to Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-4 in a doubles decider as Italy won the contest 2-1 to advance to the semis of the Davis Cup for the first time in 8 years.

Fans criticized Mardy Fish for not picking Ram on the team and questioned his logic behind selecting Paul, who is yet to win a doubles title on the tour. The 25-year-old Paul, who recently defeated Rafael Nadal at the Paris Masters, took to Twitter and wrote:

“It’s so cool to see ppl who aren’t/will never be Davis cup captains pretending to be Davis cup captains on Twitter #tweetingfromyourparentsbasement”

This tweet didn’t please the fans one bit, not that it was meant to though. In the following section, we will take a look at how some fans reacted to this tweet from Paul.
