Eugenie Bouchard made a comeback to the tennis court last week

Eugenie Bouchard shared pictures on Instagram of her first court session in a while, nine months after undergoing shoulder surgery. “First exhibition set in a while. I had the best time playing infront of a crowd. My cheeks hurt from smiling the whole time”, Bouchard wrote on Instagram.

The Canadian secured wins in the singles and mixed doubles events, sealing a victory for her and partner Tommy Haas at the SoCal Dealers Helpful Cup in California. It’s the first new mixed team event on the Champions Series tennis tour. Speaking on her time on the court after a long time, Bouchard said, “I played better than I expected. We had really tough conditions. We are very cold out here and it’s hard to serve sometimes with the wind. But I just tried to hit the shots I’ve been doing in practice since I’ve been training for my comeback.”

Bouchard tore her subscapularis in early 2021 during a match at the Guadalajara Open. She decided to have arthroscopic surgery after attempting various forms of conservative treatment and rehab. The 28-year old never lost hopes of a full-fledged recovery though. “I have a tough road of rehab ahead for me, but my spirits are high and I will work hard to get back to the job that I love”, Bouchard wrote on social media after her injury. Fast forward to today, Bouchard is finally back one court – one step forward to making a comeback on the WTA professional circuit!

We hope to see Eugenie Bouchard back playing at the Grand Slams very soon!
