“I was missing more than usual”- Stefanos Tsitsipas reflects on his first round Australian Open win

Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Mikael Ymer in the first round of Australian Open 2022

World no.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas put on a clinical show in the first round of the Australian Open against Mikael Ymer. The Greek was able to ease past Ymer and earned a straight-set victory by beating him 6-2, 6-4. 6-3.

Tsitsipas is one of the best hard court players around the world and his capabilities were really on show at the game. Speaking at the post-game press conference, the world no. 4 was asked to reflect on his win and said:

“It was a matter of patience and my determination was there when I had to put something more into my game and at the end it was all about the power and the intention to come in that gave me the match and the consistency of doing so as well because he was giving me balls that I was trying to attack and come in and there were little moments in the match where I was missing more than usual but with a little bit of a mind reset it came back to how I wanted it to be.”

Tsitsipas has made it known that even though he put on a dominant show, it was still a lot of work for him. As revealed by him, he had to maintain his composure to eventually win the match.

Who will Stefanos Tsitsipas face in the second round of Australian Open?

Stefanos Tsitsipas will hit the court again on 20th January to take on the Argentinian Sebastian Baez. Tsitsipas will certainly be the favorite going into the match and will look to move past to the next round of the tournament.

Baez is coming off a hard-fought five-setter win against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas. He won the match 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

It will be interesting to see how far Stefanos Tsitsipas goes in the Australian Open 2022.
