“It’s too late, the moment has passed, you blew it” – Fans left fuming as Sportsnet issues apology for feed interruption during Davis Cup Final

published

Sportsnet was telecasting the Davis Cup in Canada. The Rogers-owned broadcaster crashed shortly before the winning moment came out for Canada against Australia in the final.

Canada won the Davis Cup title for the first time after finishing runner-up in the 2019 edition. They defeated Australia on Sunday in Malaga, Spain to win the “World Championship of Tennis”. They had initially been swept 4-0 by the Netherlands in a qualifying tie back in March. However, star players like Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov did not feature in that rubber. Canada was the highest-ranked country that went on to be eliminated. So, when Russia was not allowed to play in the tournament following its war with Ukraine, Canada received a pass into the final phases of the event.

From there, Canada went on to script history by winning the tournament. They had also won the ATP Cup earlier in the year and now they have done the double.

Fans, however, failed to witness the historic moment live as Sportsnet failed to air the final moments of the heated Davis Cup encounter. The trophy ceremonies were also not telecasted live.

Sportsnet, later, issued an apology on Twitter blaming weather-related issues with their satellite feed behind the debacle. The full match and trophy ceremony were later telecasted after Sportsnet recovered the broadcast from their world partners. They wrote:

“Canadian tennis fans…

We sincerely apologize for the feed interruption during today’s Davis Cup Final. Due to weather-related issues with our satellite feed, we were regrettably unable to air the final moments of Canada vs. Australia and the following trophy ceremony.

We have worked with our world partners to recover the broadcast in full, and will air the match and trophy ceremony in their entirety at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet ONE and SN NOW.”
