Rafael Nadal defeats Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4 in the final

Rafael Nadal is now the youngest and the oldest ever champion of the Mexican Open. The 4th seed hasn’t dropped a single set over his five matches in the tournament. The Spaniard outclassed World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev to make it to the final. In the final, the 6th seed from the United Kingdom, Cameron Norrie was no match for the reigning Australian Open champion.

Nadal is now the only player in the Open Era to have won at least 450 matches on both hard court and clay surfaces. The 21-time Grand Slam Champion is in amazing form since the start of the season. He has played two tournaments this year (Australian Open and Mexican Open) and won both. Nadal will go to his favourite French Open high on confidence and definitely as the man to beat.

Rafael Nadal grateful for his longevity

Rafael Nadal thanked all his support staff and the fans for all the love and support. During the post-match press conference, Nadal said, “It is incredible to be able to win a tournament like this once again at 35. There are many people who have a hard time in this world. I can’t be angry and not value how lucky I am to be a professional player.” The Spaniard added, “I received this type of education since I was little, values that remain for the rest of your life and that I have grown in. I have had the capacity of self-control even when things weren’t going well.”

Nadal expressed his gratitude for his longevity. “To be honest, nobody is exemplary in every way. We all make mistakes. The important thing is that they are not very big and that they are not repeated. I really like what I do and we tennis players are lucky. I have made a career from my hobby when I was little and on top of that I have been very successful”.

Nadal never fails to win us over be it with his words or his insane skills.
