I am not the guy who is going to be at Roland Garros and be in the position that I could be in.”

“I need to stop for a while and my decision is to stop. I don’t know when I will be able to come back to the practice court.. maybe 2 months, maybe 4 months.. I am just doing what I think is the right thing to do for my body and my personal happiness,” he added.

Why did Rafael Nadal withdraw from the French Open 2023?

In the championship match from the previous year, Nadal prevailed against Casper Ruud despite having a foot issue that had been bothering him. After injuring his hip flexor in the second round of his match against Mackenzie McDonald, which essentially ruined the defense of his Melbourne Park championship, he has not played since January and has had a difficult time dealing with his most recent problem.

After missing competitions in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Barcelona earlier this season due to injury, Nadal decided to boycott claycourt championships in Rome and Madrid in order to get back in shape. The original prognosis for his absence was that he would be absent for up to eight weeks.

As a result of a setback in his rehabilitation before to the Madrid Open and his subsequent withdrawal from the Italian Open, he was now faced with the possibility of heading to Paris without having played any competitive matches in the lead-up to his preferred Grand Slam tournament. For the first time since 2005, Rafael Nadal is presently ranked 14th in the world after falling out of the top 10 in the rankings for the month of March.

The 14 championships that Nadal has won in the French Open are the most that any player has ever won at a single major tournament. He has a remarkable record of 112-3 in Paris and is known to many as the “King of Clay” due to his success there.
