Daniil Medvedev is certainly a joy to watch when he is in full flow on a tennis court. The World No. 1 showed a lighter side of himself recently as he photobombed a fan’s selfie with Andrey Rublev’s coach – Fernando Vicente.
A fan posted a picture with Fernando Vicente outside the US Open practice courts. Behind them stood the 2021 US Open champion, Daniil Medvedev, sporting a white T-shirt and white shorts, showing a thumbs-up.
The fan certainly received a huge bonus as he not only got a picture with Andrey Rublev’s coach – Fernando Vicente but also with one of the best players in modern-day tennis.
Fernando Vicente is a former tennis player who won 3 singles titles and 2 doubles titles in his career. He won 157 singles matches and lost 213. In the doubles circuit, he won 44 matches and lost 59. He retired in 2011.
In 2020, he received the ATP Coach of the Year award. Before joining Andrey Rublev in 2017, the Spaniard coached Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez from 2010 to 2014.

The Russian tennis pro came really close to winning two Grand Slam titles on the trot. He won the first two sets of the Australian Open final against the legendary Rafael Nadal. However, the Spaniard showed why he is rated one of the greatest of all time as he won the next three sets to claim his 21st Grand Slam title.
Medvedev spoke on Eurosports ‘s Players’ Voice and discussed about his campaign at the Australian Open earlier in the year. He was happy with his performance at the first major of the year and said he played some good tennis and won a “crazy match” against Felix Auger-Aliassime.
“The Australian Open, overall, was good for me for example. I played very good tennis there, I won a crazy match against Felix [Auger-Aliassime, in the quarter-finals], I wouldn’t say that I should have lost it, but I almost did, even saving a match point,” he said.
“Then there was this final against Rafa. I would have liked to do better, to win it, I was in front. Obviously, just after a loss like the one in the Australian Open final, for a few days, even a few weeks, it’s hard for me. It’s complicated,” the 26-year-old said.
“But once again, when I look back, I tell myself that it’s experience, it’s life. All this made me progress as a human being. I understood some things. I understood that, sometimes in life, things don’t always go my way! So I try to see things a little differently now,” he added.
