Legendary 23-time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams, was making a comeback to tennis after a year. Before this tournament, she last played in the 2021 Wimbledon tournament where she had to retire during her first-round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, after an injury to her leg.

Serena Williams and Tunisian Ons Jabeur won their Round of 16 match against the team of Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marie Bouzkova 2-6, 6-3, 13-11.

In the quarterfinal match, Williams and Jabeur breezed past the team of Shuko Aoyama and Chan Hao-Ching 6-2, 6-4. They were scheduled to take on the team of Aleksandra Krunic and Magda Linette in the semi-final on Friday.

However, that match will not be happening as Ons Jabeur has suffered a knee injury. This has forced the run of Jabeur and Williams at Eastbourne International to end abruptly. We would like to wish Jabeur a speedy recovery and hope she returns to the court soon.

What’s next for Serena Williams?

Now, Williams will turn her focus on the upcoming Wimbledon event. She will be eyeing a record-equalling 24th grand slam title at the most prestigious tournament in tennis.

Williams has received a wild card entry into the tournament and it is going to be interesting to see who she faces in the first round. The draw will be held on Friday morning.

Williams is a seven-time Wimbledon champion. Her last win in the competition came in 2016. The 40-year-old won her last Grand Slam title at the 2017 Australian Open.
