Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev to win his ninth Australian Open title in 2021

Not even a muscle tear was able to stop Novak Djokovic from winning the Australian Open in 2021. Djokovic tore an abdominal oblique muscle during his third-round victory against Taylor Fritz in the tournament. However, the then World No.1 persevered to claim his 18th Grand Slam title.

In a recent interaction, Djokovic recalled his title-winning campaign back in 2021 and hinted towards an upcoming documentary. “I drank every painkiller there is in this world, had every possible therapy and treatment, was hooked up to machines. You will be able to see everything in a documentary that will be released this autumn”, said the Serbian.

It’s difficult enough to win a major without an injury. But Djokovic defeated two former World No. 3s — Milos Raonic and Alexander Zverev — halted Aslan Karatsev’s dream run and then defeated the hottest player on the planet, Daniil Medvedev, who was on a 20-match winning streak, in the final. Just nine days ago, after tearing the muscle during a five-set victory against Taylor Fritz, Djokovic wasn’t sure he would take the court in the Round of 16.

Fans react to Novak Djokovic’s epic campaign, battling through an abdominal injury

The fact that Novak Djokovic battled through injuries to win the Australian Open in 2021 isn’t quite an unknown story. However, the prospect of re-watching it in the form of a documentary, certainly excites the fans.

“Been there done that. Absolutely crazy how he managed winning with that deep injury. Can’t wait for the documentary”, wrote a fan, who is totally looking forward to the documentary.

“People doesn’t understand what professional sports are and how hard is the tool on the body. Everyone uses all treatments and medications, as long it’s not considered doping. There aren’t supers, just hard work, pain endurance and modern medicine”, tweeted another fan.

Some fans though didn’t leave the opportunity to mock Djokovic for his anti-vaccination status. “I read that #Djokovic has a perfect body – that’s why he doesn’t need vaccines. A perfect body should never tear”, tweeted one such fan.
