Naomi Osaka matched a record held by Roger Federer and Monica Seles after her 2021 Australian Open win
Naomi Osaka put on quite a performance in the women’s singles finals of the 2021 Australian Open.
The No.3 seed met Jennifer Brady, who created quite a storm by reaching the finals. However, Osaka was miles ahead of her competitor and easily beat her in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Osaka dominated from the first service game and never looked back. Apart from a brief rally late in the second set, there was no denying who the better player was.
This was Osaka’s fourth Grand Slam finals and the experience showed. Brady was playing her first singles Grand Slam final and Osaka had some comforting words for her opponent.
Nevertheless, this was a great moment for Brady and she would have learned a lot from this clash. The American won a lot of fans over and she will be back.
As for Osaka, this was her second Australian Open and it goes with the two US Open titles she has. Osaka has won a Grand Slam title every year since 2018 and she did match a couple of greats with this win.
Naomi Osaka doesn’t know how to lose a Grand Slam final
Osaka is four for four in Grand Slam finals and Ben Rothenberg posted an incredible tweet regarding some exalted company the Japanese star keeps.
Osaka is the first woman to win all her first four Grand Slam singles finals since Monica Seles did it. Since the Open Era, only Roger Federer, Seles and now Osaka have achieved the feat of winning their first four Grand Slam finals.
Osaka certainly looked great in the win but she has some way to go if she wants to catch Federer. The Swiss Ace won his first seven Grand Slam finals before suffering a loss in his eighth one.
Osaka has a lot of time on her hands and based on how she performed here, she could go on and win a few more Slams this year.
The Japanese was almost unbeatable in the tournament and she seems ready to become the world No.1 soon.
