The Japanese star was the highest ranked female tennis star left in the competition as Ash Barty had exited the Olympics earlier.

A place in the quarter-finals was beckoning for Osaka but she seemed to be off her game. The Japanese star made an incredible 32 unforced errors in the clash and won only 49% of her points on serve.

Further, she didn’t really seem to be in the right from of mind, and lost the clash in straight sets 6-1 and 6-4.

This was another shock result in the Olympics but credit has to be given to the Czech star Vondroušová.

She executed her game to perfection and left many in shock.

The 32 unforced errors were bad enough but Osaka just didn’t have the tough today. Her exit will come as a big blow to Japan as the country would have expected Osaka to get the gold in the women’s singles competition.

Nevertheless, this exit from Osaka opens the door wide open for the tennis gold. Elina Svitolina is the next highest ranked star and is seeded fourth while a couple of others have experience of winning majors too.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the women’s singles but many were left shocked by Osaka’s exit from the competition.
