Kei Nishikori will be looking forward to putting on a decent performance at the ongoing Wimbledon 2021

Kei Nishikori holds several records since he has been one of the rarest athletes from Asia to make it big in tennis.

The number 49 ranked tennis player from Japan was just too good during the mid 2010s.

In 2014 he became the first-ever Asian in the history of the sport to make it to the finals of a singles Grand Slam, when he reached the US Open Final (he fell at the final hurdle against Marin Cilic).

He reached a career-high ranking of number 4 in the year 2015. Nishikori also became the first Japanese player in 96 years to win a medal in Tennis, when he beat Rafael Nadal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

And more recently, Nishikori brought up his 100th Grand Slam win at the ongoing Wimbledon 2021.

The Japanese beat Alexei Popyrin in straight sets (6-4, 6-4, 6-4) to bring up the milestone. Wimbledon’s official Twitter handle congratulated ‘The Centurion’ for his milestone.

Nishikori responded with a folded hands emoji expressing his gratitude.

Kei Nishikori will be hoping to go the distance at this year’s Wimbledon

After seeing off Popyrin in straight sets, Nishikori will be looking forward to putting on a decent showing.

He is now expected to face the winner of Jordan Thompson and Casper Ruud in the second-round.

Nishikori’s best performance came at the 2018 and 2019 Wimbledon. He reached the quarter finals on both the occasions.

Hence, it is safe to say that Nishikori might go the distance since his best performances have come at the most recent editions of Wimbledon.
