Andy Murray was forced to withdraw from the Queen’s Club Championships last week due to an abdominal injury

Andy Murray faces a race against time to recover and play at the Wimbledon. The tournament is scheduled to begin at the All England Club on June 27. Murray, who won in 2013 and 2016, says he is still unable to hit certain shots.

Murray picked up the injury in the Stuttgart final on 12 June and as a result, withdrew from Queen’s a day later. The former world number one had a scan in London and decided to skip the Cinch Championships after it revealed the level of the damage.

Murray, now ranked 51st in the world, has been practicing on the grass at Wimbledon this week, hitting with British number two Dan Evans and fellow three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.

On his hopes of playing at Wimbledon, Murray said – “The injury is healing but still not perfect. My goal is to try to get to the start line in a good place physically and give myself the best chance to do well.”

On whether he is still on track for Wimbledon, he added: “Yes. I’ve been practising for the past three or four days and have been practising well. But unfortunately in matches you can’t just not hit certain shots. In the next couple of days hopefully I will get the chance to test that and hopefully it will be fine.”

Andy Murray has been in good touch in this grass-court season

Murray kicked off his grass-court season at the Surbiton Trophy, a Challenger event. He reached the semi-finals of the event, displaying some good form. After straight-set wins over Jurij Rodionov, Gijs Brouwer, and Brandon Nakashima, he lost to Denis Kudla in three sets in the semifinals.

He carried forward the positive momentum to his next event – the Stuttgart Open. The 35-year-old reached the final, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the process. However, he eventually lost to the second seed Matteo Berrettini.
