Emma Raducanu is scheduled to play her first round match later today at Wimbledon 2022
All eyes will be on Emma Raducanu as she makes her Wimbledon comeback today. The British No 1 will make her Centre Court debut as she returns to SW19 where she burst onto the scene with a record-breaking run in 2021. The 10th seed will take on Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck in her first-round match.
Van Uytvanck is a grass-court veteran with her weapons and all-court game flourishing on the surface. In their only previous meeting, Raducanu defeated the Belgian 7-6, 6-3 in the first round of the Chicago 125 event last year on hard court, the last tournament before she won the US Open. Back then, the Belgian was the top seed and Raducanu was unseeded, but now the roles are reversed.
Raducanu is absolutely relishing the prospect of making her debut on centre court infront of a packed crowd. “It’s always my dream to step out on Centre Court. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and started playing tennis for”, said the British teenager.
She further added, “This year I get such a special feeling walking around the grounds, I definitely feel that people are behind me. Even from some of the people working on the tournament, they’re like, ‘You got this’, just cheering me on, that’s pretty special.”
