Novak Djokovic will be allowed to play in the French Open even if he remains unvaccinated

Novak Djokovic has had a rough week and it remains to be seen whether he is able to play at Australian Open or not. However, it seems like the French Sports minister is keen on seeing the Serbian participate at the French Open. Roxana Maracineanu, the French sports minister has also come out with an interesting statement. He has stated that the country will allow Djokovic to enter the country and also participate in the tournament.

Maracineanu said (h/t: ESPN)

“He would not follow the same organisational arrangements as those who are vaccinated. But he will nonetheless be able to compete [at Roland Garros] because the protocols, the health bubble, allows it.”

The French Open has its door open for the world no.1. However, the tournament is still roughly 5 months away. Djokovic is still keen to compete at the Australian Open and it remains to be seen whether he is allowed to play or not. The Serbian will also look to get his hands on his 21st Grand Slam, if he plays at the Australian Open.

It is worth noting that even though France doesn’t have compulsions over vaccines, the government is pretty vocal about restricting access to public places for the people who are not vaccinated. Upon finding out that the sports minister is openly inviting Djokovic and also other tennis stars for the French Open, the fans weren’t entirely pleased.
