Felix Auger-Aliassime wins hearts by asking fans to cheer for Iga Swiatek at World Tennis League

Felix Auger-Aliassime got off to a good start at the World Tennis League as he defeated Nick Kyrgios in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.

The 22-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime is a part of the team Kites at the World Tennis League, alongside the likes of Iga Swiatek, Holger Rune, Eugenie Bouchard, and Sania Mirza. They played their first match at the exhibition tournament – World Tennis League and defeated team Eagles 2-1.

Nick Kyrgios and Bianca Andreescu teamed up to defeat Holger Rune and Eugenie Bouchard in the first rubber of the best-of-three matches. Swiatek kept her team in the game by defeating Caroline Garcia in the second match 6-3, 6-4, and levelling the score at 1-1. It all boiled down to the last match between Auger-Aliassime and Kyrgios. The Canadian youngster produced a solid display to come back from three games down in the first set to eventually win the match 7-5, 6-3.

After the match, Auger-Aliassime was giving an interview on the court. He paused a bit and asked the crowd in attendance to give a round of applause for world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.

During the interview, Felix Auger-Aliassime mentioned that Iga Swiatek had an amazing year and it felt amazing to see her evolve.

Here we’ve got the number one player in the world. Big applause for the number one player in the world, please,” Felix Auger-Aliassime said, as the crowd then cheered for a beaming Swiatek.

“She’s had an amazing year. If you all followed it, it’s been amazing to see her evolve,” the world No. 6 added.

Kites will now take on the Hawks on Day 4 of the competition on 22 December in the exhibition tournament.
