Roger Federer made a winning return after 487 days at Roland Garros beating Dennis Istomin in straight sets

Roger Federer has only featured sparingly since undergoing knee surgery last year and has featured in two tournaments this year before Roland Garros.

Federer showed some fine footwork during the encounter, and in the aftermath of his victory many fans took to Twitter to hail the 20-time Grand Slam champion’s performance.

“Tennis Channel” compiled several close-up shots of the star’s movement into an ASMR montage ( h/t Twitter ).

On Wednesday, Roger Federer responded to the video satirically suggesting that he was “dancing on the clouds” and “floating above the sand”.’

The fact that Federer will turn 40 this August and still playing at a high level deserves huge plaudits. Although the 20-time Major winner has a precise serve and a masterful forehand, it is his immaculate footwork that makes his game so well rounded.

Federer’s 2021 Record and Path at Roland Garros

Federer played in the ATP 250 tournaments in Doha and Geneva. In the Qatari event he reached the quarter-finals beating Daniel Evans on his debut. He endured a shock three-set loss to Nikoloz Basilashvili, who later won the tournament.

In Geneva, however, Federer lost in the round of 16 against an excellent Pablo Andujar.

It is also the first time in history that the Big Three will be part of the same portion of the draw in a Grand Slam tournament. The first seeded player in Federer‘s side is American Taylor Fritz, who reached the third round in Paris last year.

If Federer were to go beyond the round of 16, we could see two of the Big 3 clash. The Swiss would cross Djokovic in the quarterfinals and consequently Nadal in the semifinals.
