Daniil Medvedev has blasted the crowd for booing him during his win over Nick Kyrgios

Daniil Medvedev took on Australia’s own Nick Kyrgios in the second round of the Australian Open. Although Medvedev managed to walk away with a victory, the Russian wasn’t entirely pleased with the crowd in attendance during the Australian Open tie.

Daniil Medvedev opined that he yearns to come back to the court as soon as possible.

Medvedev seemed to have been booed by the crowd who were supporting Kyrgios and was not at all happy about it. Post match he went on to speak with Eurosport and was asked whether he was angry because of the crowd. Expressing his frustration over what happened, Medvedev said:

”It’s not anger, it’s a little bit disappointing. I suppose it’s normal especially when you play a home favourite and not just the home favourite but Nick. But it’s like you know on my serve, many games were actually quite easy for me with a lot of aces. Few moments were tough where he managed to make good returns. I had a break point, second serve, and people are cheering like I’ve already made a double fault. And that’s just disappointing because it’s not everybody who is doing it, but those who are doing it probably have a low IQ.”

Who will Daniil Medvedev face in the third round?

As mentioned earlier, Medvedev managed to go past home favorite Nick Kyrgios in the second round. Now, the Russian tennis star has set himself a meeting with the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp for the third round of the tournament.

Medvedev will take on de Zandschulp on 22nd January. Heading into the tie, the Russian will surely be a heavy favorite and it will be interesting to see how far he goes in the tournament.
