Carlos Alcaraz has rarely played on grass since turning pro in 2018. He will be determined to better his performance this year at Wimbledon after a second-round exit in 2021 from the most prestigious tournament in tennis.

However, fans were worried after Alcaraz had a heavily strapped right elbow during his match against Tiafoe. The 19-year-old Alcaraz has been resting his elbow since his loss to Alexander Zverev in the Roland Garros quarter-final.

The talented youngster gave a positive update regarding the status of his elbow after his loss to the 25-year-old Tiafoe:

It’s just for precaution. A couple of weeks ago I had the problems, I couldn’t train well. I trained a couple of times at Wimbledon without pain, here I felt well.

“The first match on grass is never easy but I had fun out there. Of course I have more training ahead, a match on Saturday here as well to get ready and to get 100 per cent for Wimbledon.”

Tennis fans across the world would be relieved after getting assurance straight from the horse’s mouth. Alcaraz has been in scintillating form this year.

There is no doubt that Alcaraz has a long way to go before he could reach the lofty standards that his idol has set, but the start has been quite impressive for the youngster.

He has managed to win the Rio Open, the Miami Open, the Barcelona Open, and also the Madrid Open. He also made it to the semifinals of the Indian Wells Master where he lost to Nadal 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.

In the two Grand Slams that have taken place this year, Alcaraz has managed to reach the third round in the Australian Open while he lost in the quarterfinals of the recently concluded French Open.
