After his surreal success in 2022, fans were looking forward to seeing Carlos Alcaraz in action in 2023. However, they will have to wait as the current world No. 1 won’t be in action at the upcoming Australian Open competition that begins on January 16.

Carlos Alcaraz won four titles heading into the 2022 US Open. A Grand Slam title was missing from his trophy cabinet but that didn’t last long. He won the title in Flushing Meadows and also reached the top of the ATP rankings.

In his social media handle, the Spanish star revealed his condition, stating that the injury happened in the pre-season caused due to an unnatural movement in training.

“When I was at my best in preseason, I picked up an injury through a chance, unnatural movement in training. This time it’s the semimembranosus muscle in my right leg.”

The previous season came to an end for Alcaraz when he suffered an injury while playing Holger Rune in the Paris Masters. The 19-year-old will have to wait further to return to action after he revealed on social media that he got hurt “through a chance, unnatural movement in training”. He was supposed to take part in a warm-up event in Kooyong before beginning his campaign in the Australian Open. That is not happening now.

“I’d worked so hard to get to my best level for Australia but unfortunately I won’t be able to play the Care A2+ Kooyong or the Australian Open. It’s tough, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. See you in 2024

Rafael Nadal will now be the No. 1 seed at the 2023 Australian Open

After Carlos Alcaraz confirmed that he will not be playing in the 2023 Australian Open, the world No. 2, Rafael Nadal will enter the first Grand Slam of the year as the top seed.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner is also the defending champion. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in last year’s final to win his second Australian Open title.

It has not been a great start to the year for the southpaw. He played in the inaugural United Cup and lost matches against Cameron Norrie and Alex de Minaur. The 36-year-old will hope to turn things around on the big stage.
