Talking points from Premier League match-day 2: How did the teams fare?
The Premier League never ceases to amaze and that’s been the case in the second match-day of the season. Some unexpected results, along with plenty of talking points, made it interesting for the viewers. We witnessed Brighton & Hove Albion shockingly beating Manchester United, while champions Manchester City displayed their credentials.
Here are five talking points from the weekend:
1.) Chelsea show their style against Arsenal
Chelsea exhibited a style of football which should be liked by many at Stamford Bridge. They almost walked past Arsenal in their derby game on Saturday, before getting a reality check in defence. However, the high-intensity passing football was attractive to watch, which is something different for the Chelsea fans.
New manager Maurizio Sarri is slowly starting to implement his front-foot style of play. This can bode well for the Blues in the upcoming games, and possibly, seasons.
2.) Manchester United humbled
Manchester United were humbled by an impressive Brighton & Hove Albion at Amex Stadium. The performance harshly highlighted as to why Jose Mourinho is in trouble at Old Trafford. Most of his players don’t seem to play for him, which is rather worrisome for the manager and the club in general.
The Red Devils looked toothless throughout the game and never managed to ignite a reaction among themselves, despite going 3-1 down at half-time. Same old third season negative barrage for Mourinho? Maybe.
3.) Manchester City show their credentials
Champions Manchester City showed they have what it takes to defend the Premier League title, by thrashing Huddersfield Town 6-1 at Etihad Stadium. Even without key man Kevin De Bruyne, who is out injured, the Cityzens looked menacing in every department. It will be hard for any team to catch Pep Guardiola’s men this season as well.
4.) Huddersfield might struggle to stay up this season
Even though losing to the champions is no shame, Huddersfield could get relegated this season. Scoring goals have been their perennial problem since their arrival in the Premier League, which isn’t good because teams can easily figure out ways to break them down.

5.) West Ham and Pellegrini need time
After getting thumped by Liverpool, West Ham should have gotten the better of Bournemouth at home. But as it turned out, the Cherries came from behind to beat the Hammers. So, the east London club must provide adequate time to allow Manuel Pellegrini and the new players to settle in. Hence, it is vital for them to gel well and improve the collective performance.
