Manchester United Opinion: Why Junior Firpo will be a good fit for United?
According to a report from Spanish publication AS, Manchester United are interested in Real Betis defender Junior Firpo.
After making his senior debut last year, Junior Firpo, 22, has now established himself as the first-choice left-back at Real Betis and helped the club finish 11th in La Liga this season. He managed just 24 appearances in the La Liga due to injury problems; yet, he has managed to grab the eyeballs of Manchester United.
The report claims the Red Devils are now willing to offer £26m to Betis in order to bring the 22-year-old to Old Trafford, but they’ll face competition from Real Madrid.
Manchester United are ready to strongly back manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market this summer after a forgettable 2018/19 campaign that saw the club finish sixth on the table. Solskjaer will aim to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title, with the Norwegian keen to inject younger, hungrier and determined blood into his squad.
The 20-time Premier League champions conceded over 50 goals this past season which should make shoring up the defence Solskjaer’s topmost priority. The United manager also must reinforce his full-back options, with Luke Shaw in dire need of competition at left-back.
Shaw had a brilliant campaign, winning the club’s Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards. He has made the left-back position his own but to push him and improve his game further, the England international requires competitions.
And that’s what Junior Firpo can provide Solskjaer’s Red and White army. Despite primarily being a left-back, the Dominican Republic-born defender can operate comfortably further up the pitch or in central defence, and such versatility adds a lot of value to his name. He managed a tally of 3 goals and 4 assists last season, which is an impressive return particularly in 24 La Liga appearances he made.
The Spanish Under-21 international is an energetic left-sided player, who is blessed with pace, power and physicality. Firpo has bags of energy and his attacking prowess in the final third will help Solskjaer in implementing an aggressive and expansive style of football at Old Trafford next season.

Plus, not only he has the pace to burn and the flair to catch the eye but the 22-year-old also has a keen eye for picking out key passes in the final third.
Verdict
If United are able to get the deal done between £26m to £30m, it would be a huge coup for Solskjaer’s side, despite Firpo’s recent struggles in the fitness department.
