Strongest Tottenham XI featuring Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon
Tottenham have been quite active in this year’s transfer window with the arrivals of some new faces. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg arrived from Southampton who adds steel to the midfield. Matt Doherty was fished from Wolverhampton and looks like an improvement on Serge Aurier. Joe Hart offers a solid backup option to Hugo Lloris (source – Sky Sports).
Two more deals were completed, with Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon making the switch from Real Madrid.
This could mean some changes for the club in terms of team selection and formation. It will surely be a welcome headache for Mourinho as he aims to get Spurs back into the top 4 in his first full season in charge.
Below we take a look at how Mourinho can put out the strongest Spurs line-up with loan signing Bale, £32m signing Reguilon and the other new signings.
Strongest Tottenham XI
Formation: 3-4-3
Goalkeeper – Hugo Lloris
The world cup winner is still Spurs’ best bet in goal and will continue to man the posts. Joe Hart and Paulo Gazzaniga don’t look like they will replace him any time soon.
Defence – Japhet Tanganga, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez
A switch to a back three gives the defence a sturdier look and allows the wing-backs to play with more attacking freedom. Tanganga can return to his natural centre-back position instead of left-back. Alderweireld will be the most central of the three and can act as a ball-playing centre-back. Sanchez slots in on the right side and completes the trio.
Midfield – Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso, Matt Doherty
We see three new faces in this area of the field. Reguilon and Doherty play as wing-backs or wide midfielders. They have a much better offensive output than regular full-backs. Hojbjerg can be the deeper of the two midfielders while Lo Celso can take up the creative responsibilities.
Attack – Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane, Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale slots in on the right flank. Son and Bale can act as inverted wingers, which would in turn, allow the wing-backs to occupy the wider positions. The duo can drift inside into more attacking positions. Harry Kane as the striker up front is a no-brainer. This feels a bit unfair to Steven Bergwijn, who started off his Spurs career on a high note.
Several good players miss out on this line-up but this looks like the strongest XI that Mourinho can put out on a match day.
