Steven Adams Career
Adams’ brother Warren decided to join him under the basketball legend, Kenny McFadden. Kenny wanted Adam to follow just the rules to train under him, it was that he should attend school every day. Though there was a burden on Adam’s shoulders, he managed to follow it well enough.
Adams wished to join Notre Dame Preparatory School for a period of one semester. After his training at the Preparatory School, he joined Pittsburgh. He was awarded the Big East Preseason Rookie of the Year and earned Big East All-Rookie Team honors. During the 2012-13 season, he averaged 7.2 points with 6.3 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. He wished to enter the NBA draft, without completing his final three years in college.
In the 2013 NBA draft, he was picked by the Oklahoma City Thunder. On entering the NBA League, he became the first New Zealander to get selected in the NBA League. He made his NBA debut against the Utah Jazz on October 30, 2013, he scored two points with three rebounds and one assist. Out of the 80 games, Adams played, he started in 20 games and averaged 3.3 points with 4.1 rebounds.
On seeing his contribution to the team, the Thunders extended his contract to a 4-year/$100 million contract. In a match against the Cavaliers, he did 17 rebounds, out of which 12 rebounds is offensive which hasn’t been done by any Cavalier players. After his remarkable journey with the Thunders, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on November 2020. He signed a 2-year/$35 million contract with the Pelicans. After playing a few matches for the Pelicans, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. As of now, Adam is having a great time with the Grizzlies.
