Two players Watford should sign in January to secure a European spot

Watford have gotten off to a flying start in the Premier League this term with four back-to-back wins and sent a strong message to the top-six teams that they mean business this term in the Premier League.

The Hornets sit 7th in the standings with 20 points from 12 games, just behind Bournemouth on goal difference. However, they need to rack up wins on a consistent basis to challenge for a spot in the Europa League next season.

Despite making a bright start to the season, Javi Gracia’s men just seem to have lost a bit of momentum, winning only a couple of their last eight games. The Hornets have every reason to be disappointed with themselves, particularly after that shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United and a 1-1 draw against Southampton in recent weeks.

The battle for the Europa League spot is expected to go down to the wire with the likes of Leicester City, Bournemouth, Manchester United, Everton and Wolves all in contention to finish 6th and 7th in the standings.

And Watford need more depth in their squad to improve their chances of edging ahead of their rivals in the race for the Europa League spot. Here are 2 players that they should go for in January.

1. Vicente Iborra (Leicester City)

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Etienne Capoue have formed a formidable partnership in the heart of the midfield for the Hornets this season. In fact, the midfield duo has been one of the cornerstones of Watford’s bright start to the season.

However, that should not stop manager Javi Gracia from investing in another experienced central midfield to provide cover and competition for the regular pairing of Capoue and Doucoure.

And Leicester City’s Vicente Iborra would be a good choice for the Hornets, particularly because of the fact that he has tasted Europa League glory thrice in the past with his former club Sevilla.

The 30-year-old Spaniard was an integral part of the Foxes’ first-team in the previous season but he has made only a single start in the Premier League this term.

A fluent passer of the ball who is also immaculate with his distribution, Iborra is a good reader of the game in the midfield. Not only does he have the ability to break up the play with interceptions but also contributes quite a lot to the attack.

2. Divock Origi (Liverpool)

Andre Gray and Troy Deeney have done reasonably well for the Hornets this season, sharing a total of 5 goals between them. However, Watford need more firepower in their attack to achieve a better goalscoring record.

Isaac Success, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra have all been on song in recent weeks but the Hornets must look for another striker to bolster the attack.

And Liverpool’s out of favour star Divock Origi would be the ideal man to provide cover and competition for the likes of Gray and Deeney.

The Belgian has made only a solitary appearance for Liverpool this season and his experience of playing in the Europa League and the Champions League might prove to be a valuable asset to the Hornets.
