Why Manchester United must offload Daley Blind this summer

Daley Blind is on the brink of returning to his boyhood and former club Ajax from Manchester United. He arrived at Old Trafford four years ago from the Netherlands, under the management of Louis Van Gaal.

However, with limited game time under Jose Mourinho, the versatile midfielder must look for other options. He started just four games in the Premier League last season. Inter Milan are also considering bidding for the player, who is currently earning wages in the region of £75,000-a-week.

The 28-year-old was a part of the Ajax academy and he rapidly progressed through the ranks. He won four consecutive titles in Amsterdam and played a pivotal part in Netherlands’ wonderful run to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2014.

In-depth information about Daley Blind

Blind can play across several positions. In fact, he can play as a centre-back, a defensive midfielder and a left-back. His multifaceted outlook as a player helped United upon his arrival. Van Gaal could deploy him either as a defensive midfield or as one of the centre-backs without hesitating.

The 28-year old-also possesses the ability to take penalties, corner kicks, set-pieces and be good at it. The Dutchman has a lovely left foot which helps him deliver some fantastic crosses and shoot from distance.

If we take a look at his numbers from the 2014/15 season, his first at Old Trafford, they are pretty good. In 25 appearances in the Premier League, he scored 2 goals and supplied 2 assists. He had a pass accuracy rate of 87.7%, playing either as a deep-lying midfielder or a centre-back.

Blind to Ajax makes sense

In his overall game, Blind brings about a sense of calmness, quality and versatility of the highest order. He can perfectly fit a possession-based team like Ajax. Also, having played for them before, the 28-year-old would relish the prospect of going back to his native country and play for his boyhood club.

Daley Blind has been surplus to requirement for Jose Mourinho

For Manchester United and Mourinho, he has been a surplus to requirement for the longest time. He has simply been unable to nail a regular spot and it does not make sense for him to continue like this.

So, for the Red Devils, it will be the right move to offload the player and use the money elsewhere. For Ajax, it would be a great moment of reunion with their academy graduate.
