Roger Federer gave an update on his injury status saying there were no serious concerns at the moment during a post-match press conference after his Australian Open semi-final loss to Novak Djokovic.

Second seed Federer had suffered groin and lower back problems during his quarterfinal clash against Tennys Sandgren.

He had then chosen to skip practice on Wednesday in a bid to recover for his match against Djokovic.

Meanwhile, rumours had surfaced that the Swiss maestro would withdraw from the match even before it started, however, Federer did turn up but went on to lose 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets to the Serbian.

And later, while speaking to reporters after his exit from the tournament, he provided an update on the injury that was troubling him. He said that he hoped he would recover quickly and be fit for the upcoming ‘Match for Africa’ exhibition clash with Rafael Nadal.

“I don’t know, my feeling is rather quickly, to be honest. I hope I am somewhat fine for South Africa. That is something I can somewhat control.

“But then, of course, you want to be 100 percent to be able to train again and then get ready for hopefully Dubai but right now it’s only a guessing.

“I am very happy I don’t feel any worse than when I started that’s for me super encouraging. So, yeah, I think we will go from there and see if I need to do another scan or not,” the 20-time Grand Slam winner concluded.
