Predicted 4-2-3-1 Leicester City XI to face Southampton in the Carabao Cup

Leicester City will play host to Southampton for the round of 16 clash of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. The game was scheduled to be held a couple of weeks back but was rescheduled following the helicopter crash incident that took place outside the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes overcame the challenge of Wolverhampton Wanderers on penalties in the third round of the tournament and they will be strong favourites to secure a place in the last eight.

Southampton have a lot to think about after losing 3-2 to Fulham in the Premier League this week. The Saints beat Everton on penalties in the third round and will need to overturn the odds if they are to progress to the quarterfinals.

Team News

James Maddison received a red card in the Premier League game against Brighton and is suspended for the Carabao Cup tie while Harry Maguire and Rachid Ghezzal are unlikely to feature on Tuesday.

Vicente Iborra was taken off due to an injury against Brighton and the Spaniard might sit out for this one. Daniel Amartey and Matthew James are ruled out with long-term injuries.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Claude Puel

Predicted XI

1. Danny Ward (GK)

The former Liverpool man played in the third round of the Carabao Cup and is expected to replace Kasper Schmeichel between the sticks.

2. Danny Simpson (RB)

The veteran should replace Ricardo Pereira at the back for this one as the Portuguese international will need to be fresh to start against Watford on Saturday.

3. Jonny Evans (CB)

The former Manchester United man has been doing well in the recent weeks and should start on Tuesday.

4. Caglar Soyuncu (CB)

The Turkish international did not play against Brighton which indicates that Puel might field him in the starting eleven on Tuesday.

5. Christian Fuchs (LB)

The hugely experienced full-back hasn’t had much playtime in the Premier League this season but will be expected to start ahead of Ben Chilwell for this one.

6. Nampalys Mendy (CDM)

The Frenchman’s tenacity and strength are valuable assets to the Foxes in the heart of the midfield.

7. Adrien Silva (CDM)

The injury to Iborra might open the door for the Portuguese international to get a start as Puel might want Wilfried Ndidi to be fresh for Saturday’s clash.

8. Marc Albrighton (RM)

Rachid Ghezzal is injured so Puel should hand the Englishman a start in the Carabao Cup.

9. Damarai Gray (LM)

The youngster has been doing well for the Foxes in recent weeks and should be one of the first names on the team sheet for this one.

10. Shinji Okazaki (CAM)

The Japanese veteran has struggled for playtime this season but he will be expected to start, given that Maddison is suspended.

11. Kelechi Iheanacho (ST)

He hasn’t been in good touch this season but Puel should give a break to Jamie Vardy for this one.
