The much awaited sequel for the fan favourite game Psychonauts is finally here. But there seems to be some issue regarding Psychonauts 2 performance on the consoles and here is a report of the same
Just like its predecessor, Psychonauts 2 is a platform video game developed by Double Fine. It has been released for Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Playstation 4, Playstation 5 and PC.
The players control the main protagonist Rasputin ‘Raz’ Aquato a trained acrobat expert and powerful psychic in the third person mode. Raz has finally fulfilled his dream of joining the international psychic espionage organization called The Psychonauts.
But he learns that the spies are in trouble as they have a mole hiding in their headquarters. And what is worse is that the leader of the Psychonauts has not been the same after he was rescued from his kidnapper.
Psychonauts 2 has a cinematic style with a unique art style. The imaginative and exciting story mixes humour and mystery. You can explore unique environments by using Raz’s ability to dive into people’s brains and battle their inner demons.
Put Raz’s acrobatic skills to a test by completing the game on tightropes and trapezes. The acrobatic skills and visuals add a challenging and joyful aspect to the 3D platformer. You will unlock a powerful array of psychic powers in Psychonauts 2. You can blast, burn, levitate and even slow down time itself to solve the puzzles and battle strange bosses.
Console optimization issues
The amazing visuals of the Psychonauts 2 have caused some FPS issues on the console version of the game. Psychonauts 2 is only playable on the Playstation 5 via backward compatibility. The boosted 60fps performance is the only bonus feature that you can get on the PS5. Youtuber ElAnalistaDeBits has done an in-depth comparison of the game on Xbox, Playstation and PC. we can see in his video that Psychonauts 2 is not properly optimised for the PS5. It takes around 7 seconds to load a level on the Xbox X|S whereas it takes 20 seconds to load the same level on the PS5.
FPS on Consoles
The next gen consoles Xbox X|S are the best devices to run Psychonauts 2. Players can get 120fps in the Performance Mode at 1440p on the Series X and 1080p on the Series S. While the last gen console, Xbox One, will get 30fps while playing Psychonauts 2. The framerate can fluctuate a bit on the Xbox One and the PS4 but it is worth it. Players will face this issue only when there is some loading in the background.
