Here is all you need to know about protestors storming the Silverstone track during the first lap of the 2022 British GP

Oil protestors were back at it during the 2022 British GP at Silverstone. Following Zhou Guanyu’s horrific crash in the very first lap, protestors thronged the track while the debris was being cleared and other necessities were being carried out.

A picture from a Twitter account shows a number of protestors running across the track after climbing over the fence.

Here is the video footage of the same:

It is to be noted that the protestors were then removed with the help of police, and the race resumed after the suspended red flag time.

The dramatic race came to an end nearly three hours later with Carlos Sainz of Ferrari clinching his first-ever win in his F1 career. Sergio Perez came second, followed by Lewis Hamilton in P3.

British GP, not the first sporting event in the UK to be interrupted by oil protestors

This is not the first time a sporting event has been interrupted by oil protestors. During Everton FC’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United in March 2022, a protestor tied himself to the goalpost in protest of oil.

Stewards had to then intervene to get the protestor removed from the pitch.
