Preparing for UFC 284 in Australia: How did it go last time?

published

Get ready, fight enthusiasts in the area – it has been confirmed that UFC 284 will be held in the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia, in February of next year, as UFC President Dana White originally promised, and because it is expected to be a real barnburner.

UFC CEO Dana White said, “Australia, we’re back.”

UFC 251

Karamu Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal was originally scheduled to take place in Perth in 2020. The City of Light now has an opportunity to get revenge on the victim. Alexander Volkanovski, the country’s featherweight champion, and the current pound-for-pound king will be the main event of UFC 284 in his ambitious (but not entirely unexpected) attempt to win titles in both divisions.

Down Under is Hyped Up For Islam Makhachev vs Alexander Volkanovski

We can definitely anticipate fireworks when Alexander Volkanovski moves up from featherweight to lightweight for a championship battle against Islam Makhachev. Particularly considering how excited Volk will be to finally compete for a strap at home.

“I’ve had five title fights. Alexander Volkanovski recently told reporters with a smile, “I think I deserve to defend my title where I’m not getting booed.

He responded as follows when asked about the prospect of anything happening in his hometown of Wollongong:

Who else would feature?

But UFC 284 won’t feature only Volkanovski and Makhachev in a championship matchup. The co-main event will feature an interim championship battle between the highly unconventional Yair Rodriguez (#2) and Josh Emmett (#5) in an attempt to avoid holding up the featherweight division.

Of course, the victor will ultimately compete against Volkanovski for the united championship.

Finally, there are the two intimidating Paulo Costa (#6) and former middleweight champion of Australia Robert Whittaker (#2). Although a belt isn’t specifically at stake, there’s a high possibility the victor will face Alex Pereira (either before or after Israel Adesanya), and we think The Reaper has a great chance of regaining his kingdom versus Poatan. Also to be anticipated are fireworks between these frequent fighters.

It is known that UFC fans in Australia absolutely love betting and gambling is not strange to them as well. So the same as the next UFC event, is causing a huge uproar in Down Under.

Other Possible Contestants

There are plenty more Australians who do not have bouts scheduled, and you can bet that most, if not all, will beg to be included on the Perth bill.

Jacob Malkoun, Whittaker’s training partner, has shown to be a tough opponent at 185 pounds. If Jamie Mullarkey is selected, his fan-friendly demeanor will have the RAC Arena standing.

Jessica-Rose Clark, a women’s bantamweight from Australia, is also currently unopposed.

UFC 243: Australia

UFC 243 was held in Australia back in 2019 when Israel Adesanya won the middleweight championship by knocking out Robert Whittaker in the second round at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.

Adesanya fought Anderson Silva at UFC 234 on the revered grounds of Rod Laver Arena a short while earlier.

Final Thoughts

The promotion will make its 16th trip to Australia with UFC 284, making it the first pay-per-view event to take place on our scorched shores since 2019.
