Predicted Southampton XI to face Manchester United in the Premier League

A daunting test awaits Southampton in the form of Manchester United in the midweek Premier League games. The Saints are in a bit of a rut as they look to bounce back from three straight losses, the last of which coming against Aston Villa.

Manchester United are also in indifferent form, with just two wins from their last five league games. Nonetheless, Southampton would fancy themselves in this fixture as Manchester United have lost 4 games at home this season.

Team News

There are quite a few injuries for Ralph Hasenhuttl to deal with. Nathan Tella, Michael Obafemi, Mohammed Salisu and Will Smallbone all remain out with injuries. With so little time between the two games, it is unlikely that any of the aforementioned names will make the cut.

The likes of Jannik Vestergaard and Kyle Walker-Peters could be doubtful as well. Not a lot of changes can be expected from the last outing with so many injuries.

Probable Southampton XI

Formation: 4-4-2

Alex McCarthy (GK)

Has been the first choice for the side and continues his run in the side.

Yan Valery (RB)

With Walker-Peters out, Valery is the automatic choice for this position.

Jan Bednarek (CB)

Bednarek has been a regular fixture of the backline and continues in his role.

Jack Stephens (CB)

With Vestergaard out, Stephens has deputised well in the last few games.

Ryan Bertrand (LB)

Now that Jake Vokins has left the club, Bertrand is the only other player left to play left-back.

Stuart Armstrong (LM)

Not the best of games for Armstrong but will likely continue in his position.

James Ward-Prowse (CM)

The captain is a maestro with his set-pieces and will be hoping to inspire his team to a win here.

Oriol Romeu (CM)

The former Chelsea man will be vital to his side’s chances of a victory if he can keep Bruno Fernandes in check.

Theo Walcott (RM)

Should be the Saints’ chief threat from the wider areas.

Danny Ings (ST)

Ings remains his side’s best hope in the final third. Everyone will be looking to him for the goals.

Che Adams (ST)

He may not be as influential as Ings but his work rate cannot be faulted.
