Patrick Ewing Net Worth And Salary

Patrick Ewing is said to have an estimated net worth of $75 million. He was an NBA star during his 17 seasons and earned $125 million from his contracts alone. He has made plenty of media appearances including 1996 comedy movie, Space Jam. The Jamaican-born athlete also took over as head coach of his alma mater George Town’s men’s team, replacing George Thomson III. The latter’s father, George Thomson II was Ewing’s head coach.

His first contract with the New York Knicks was worth $17 million after which it rose considerably. In his latter years, Ewing made $3.9 million from his two seasons playing for Orlando Magic. Overall, the man’s career was glittered with endorsement deals. Playing in a big market team like New York, put him further in the spotlight to make a lucrative living even off the court.

One of his most lucrative business deals was the launch of the Ewing Athletics, a shoe brand. Ewing parted ways with Adidas early in his career to launch his own shoe line with his agent, David Falk. Many mainstream artists like Tupac Shakur, Gang Starr, Kriss Kross showcased Ewing’s shoes in their music videos, raising the demand amongst fans to massive heights in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, Ewing’s shoe brand shut down in 1996 due to distribution issues but was relaunched in 2012 after partnering with GPF Footwear LLC.

Patrick Ewing Basketball Career

Patrick Ewing was born an athlete in the heart of Jamaica, showcasing great talent in cricket and football. At the age of 12, he learned the game of basketball and decided to pursue it professionally. He decided to play for George Thomson and turned down scholarship offers from Boston College, Boston University, University of North Carolina, UCLA, and Villanova, which upset the local fans. Ewing went on to become one of the best athletes at collegiate level, leading Georgetown into the NCAA Division I finals three times out of four.

There was no doubt that the NBA was welcoming a bonafide star. The New York Knicks controversially got the first pick and immediately leaped at signing Ewing. What they got was exactly what was promised. With Ewing in the team, the Knicks enjoyed one of their most successful spells in the organizations history. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 1986 after averaging 20 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.1 blocks.

Ewing brought joy to Maddison Square Garden across his 15 seasons, turning them into serious title challengers against great players like Michael Jordan, Reggie Miller, Alonzo Mourning, Charles Barkley, and Karl Malone. He led them to two finals appearances in 1994 and 1995 against Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. Unfortunately, he could not earn that championship ring. What he did was make into the list of NBA’s 50 Greatest Players in history. He made 11 All-Star appearances, got call-ups to 7 All-NBA teams and was named 3 times in the NBA All-Defensive teams.

Father time caught up to him in the late ’90s as he played a single season with the Seattle Supersonics, appearing in 79 regular season games. After he was waived from his second year with the Magic, Ewing decided to hang up his boots with 24,815 points, grabbed 11,617 rebounds, and 2,894 blocks during his 17-year NBA career. The New York Knicks retired his number 33 and he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
