Chelsea report: The Blues held to a 2-2 draw by Leicester City

Chelsea had to settle for a point at the King Power Stadium after the game ended 2-2 against Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Antonio Rudiger had given the Blues an early second-half lead with a towering header, but Chelsea fell apart in alarming fashion – conceding two goals to the Foxes. Rudiger salvaged a point for Chelsea when again scored a header.

After a shaky first few minutes, Frank Lampard’s Blues settled first and started playing the better of the two sides, creating several good opportunities but taking none of them. Tammy Abraham had two half-chances in the space of three minutes – the second was a great chance, but he failed to latch onto a right-wing cross by Reece James.

Chelsea had a VAR decision go against them when it looked like Abraham was clipped by Calgar Soyuncu on 20 minutes. Willy Caballero justified his selection ahead of regular goalkeeper Kepa when he kept out Jamie Vardy on the 25th minute.

Some really solid defending from Leicester prevented Mount from scoring four minutes from the break, as the Blues piled on the pressure. The deadlock was broken right after the restart, with Chelsea taking the lead through Rudiger, who headed Mount’s corner at the back post.

Harvey Barnes equalised on the 54th minute and Ben Chilwell gave the hosts the lead 10 minutes later following a blunder by Caballero. Rudiger, though, equalised for the visitors seconds later with another stunning header, picking up an equally impressive cross by Mount again.

The Foxes should have notched up their third, but Jonny Evans missed a gilt-edged chance when he headed wide from eight yards. This was quickly followed by a quick counter-attack by the home side which saw Barnes somehow slide the ball wide of Caballero’s goal.
