The Canadian filmmaker and Oscar Winner Sarah Polley recently disclosed the terrible April fool’s hoax pulled on by none other than her 11-year-old child. On Saturday Morning, a letter appeared saying, “We express this to you with the utmost regrets: the Oscar you won was given in error.

At the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles last month, Polley’s screenplay for Women Talking took home the best-adapted screenplay award.

The letter requested that she “send it back” to California, as seen on Twitter. The awards might be kept for an extra week so she could “enjoy its presence” in her house according to her statement.

“All Quiet on the Western Front” was ultimately the “rightful” winner, therefore it was necessary to hand it back. “We are sorry for your loss, but it is only fair that the play with the real best-adapted screenplay gets the Oscars”.

Polley’s youngster continued to make light of the situation by joking that the Oscars officials had discovered their error on the day the prize was presented, but they wanted to prevent a repeat of La La Land winning Best Picture in 2017 instead of Moonlight.

Edward Berger, the director of “All Quiet on the Western Front”, joined in on the humor. He tweeted to Polley, “To save on mailing address costs as I live overseas the Academy has asked me to provide you with my address so you can ship the Oscar directly. I will follow up shortly. Ok with you?

Polley who is a performer who rose to popularity in the 1990s, quickly realized the letter wasn’t from the Academy but rather her kid as an April 1st joke.

She made it obvious though she wasn’t impressed, claiming that her 11-year-old “swung low” for April 1st.

We feel it is wrong you get this on 1 April as you will probably think it is a joke, and we feel that is wrong, so another letter will be sent assuring you that this is not a joke,” stated the letter. “This is much too cruel to be a joke, ergo deeply apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused you.
