Why West Ham United must sack Manuel Pellegrini and appoint David Moyes

Manuel Pellegrini’s time as West Ham United’s manager could be coming to an end, as per The Telegraph. The report further states that the Hammers have shortlisted former manager David Moyes as a possible replacement.

The club have made a poor start to the ongoing Premier League season and currently find themselves placed a lowly 17th in the standings. As a matter of fact, they are just 3 points above the dreaded relegation zone.

With the threat of getting relegated to the second-tier looming large, West Ham would be wise to sack Pellegrini and reach out to Moyes. Since his appointment, the former Manchester City manager has hardly done much to make a case for himself.

Despite spending a lot of money on buying reinforcements, the Chilean finds himself in a dire situation.

Lately, big-money signings like Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller have struggled to make an impact. The former is yet to score or assist a single goal thus far, despite being an attacker. Haller has chipped in with 4 goals so far but that number is simply not good enough for a club with lofty ambitions.

As far as questionable signings are concerned, Carlos Sanchez immediately springs to mind. The defensive midfielder has almost become a forgotten figure – and with good reason.

He appeared as a substitute in West Ham’s recent league game against Tottenham Hotspur but there was hardly anything he could do to salvage the situation. And one cannot speak about West Ham’s questionable signings without mentioning Roberto.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who joined on a free transfer in the summer, has put in numerous error-strewn displays in Lukasz Fabianski’s absence. Unfortunately for the Hammers, their first-choice keeper will be out for a long time due to an injury.

Despite having a plethora of talented stars at his disposal, the fact that Pellegrini has still failed to deliver results should be reason enough for the board to bid adieu to him. And to that end, Moyes is adept at steering struggling Premier League sides to safety.

Thus, West Ham must sack Pellegrini and offer the job to Moyes – even if it is on a short-term basis.
