Opinion: Leeds signing this 16-goal ace would be quite useful for Bielsa next season

Why Leeds United must plot a summer swoop for Mohamed Eisa

Back in July 2018, the Bristol Post had claimed that Leeds United were interested in signing Mohamed Eisa, who was then plying his trade for Cheltenham Town. However, a move to Leeds didn’t materialise and he ended up joining Bristol City in the summer of 2018.

A move to Bristol City didn’t pan out the way Mohamed Eisa would have imagined and after managing just five appearances in the entire 2018/19 campaign, he moved to Peterborough United in League One this past summer.

The forward has enjoyed an excellent League One campaign with Peterborough United, scoring 14 goals and providing an assist in 29 games. Overall, he has racked up 16 goals and in 35 appearances. As Eisa has impressed for the Posh, Leeds United must definitely rekindle their interest in the Sudanese when the transfer window opens this summer.

The Whites have overcome the slight dip in form and managed to reach the top of the Championship table before the Championship season was suspended earlier this month. It remains to be seen when the Championship campaign resumes but Marcelo Bielsa’s men remain hopeful of automatic qualification to the top-flight.

Leeds haven’t been at their thrilling best going forward, yet they have scored a total of 56 goals, which is impressive. Patrick Bamford, Bielsa’s first-choice centre-forward has been highly inconsistent for the majority of the campaign and managed 13 goals in 36 appearances.

He hasn’t received great support from January signing Jean-Kevin Augustin, who has been unlucky with injuries since arriving at Elland Road.

Thus, Bielsa should prioritize strengthening the attacking unit, where players like Helder Costa and Jack Harrison are on loan. In that case, signing Mohamed Eisa could turn out to be a smart decision.

Eisa’s spell with Bristol didn’t go as planned but he has managed to revive his form with Peterborough. The League One isn’t as difficult as the Championship and the Premier League but Eisa has clearly shown bags of potential in the third tier. The Sudanese certainly deserves a chance to prove his mettle at a higher level, having previously failed to cut the teeth at Bristol.

Verdict

Suffice to say, Eisa has the qualities to cover and compete with Bamford at Elland Road and at 25, he still has a lot of room for development, meaning the Sudanese could well play a part for Leeds in the Premier League should they manage to secure promotion.

Given his abilities, he would certainly add depth and quality to the squad and has a lot more to offer at a higher level. Therefore, Leeds must not hesitate and make a move for Eisa in the summer.
