‘One NOLA, No LA’ – NBA fans react as Pelicans clinch playoff spot by beating Clippers at play-in tournament in see-saw game

NBA fans on social media had a field day reacting to the New Orleans Pelicans making the playoffs after beating the LA Clippers in the play-in tournament.

NBA fans were quick to mock the LA Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers after the New Orleans Pelicans qualified for the playoffs this season. The play-in game saw the New Orleans blow a 16-point lead in the first half against the Clippers and they didn’t grab the lead for good until the game’s final five minutes.

This is the first time the Pelicans made the playoffs since the 2017-18 campaign and they were, guided by Green, a former Clipper. They have also been without key player Zion Williamson all season because of the big man’s foot injury. Amid the obstacles, the Pelicans made it through to the playoffs and will now face the Phoenix Suns in the first round.

However, despite the joy of the Pelicans making the playoffs, there was no team from LA in the postseason rounds anymore. The Los Angeles Clippers suffered elimination at the hands of the Pelicans in the play-in tournament. And the Los Angeles Lakers had a torrid season which saw them finish in 11th place on the Western Conference table.

And NBA fans took to Twitter to troll the LA-based teams. One wrote, “Jeez. What a great city LA is, not if you’re a native basketball fan rn.” while another added, “The Pelicans just coasted over the two most famous West Coast teams. Shame on LA for not having any team in the playoffs.” Even the official account of the New Orleans Pelicans took a sly dig at the two Californian teams.
