The final of the Gentleman’s singles has arrived as Italian Matteo Berretini faces World No.1 Novak Djokovic. The match could be a historic moment in the history of the sport as Djokovic looks to win his 20th Grand Slam in his career. If the Serb wins on Sunday, he will equal the record of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with most Grand Slams in the Open Era.

Berretini is in his first Grand Slam final and will be looking to spoil the celebrations with a shock win.

Djokovic beat a determined Dennis Shapovalov 7-6 (3) 7-5 7-5, to move to his 7th Wimbledon final. Berretini, meanwhile got rid of Federer’s conqueror Hubert Hurkacz in four sets.

Shapovalov was in tears after the loss to the Serbian. Djokovic in the post match interview said:

“I don’t think that the scoreline says enough about the performance and about the match. He was serving for the first set and he was probably the better player for most of the second set.”

“He had many chances and I would like to give him a big round of applause for everything that he has done today and these two weeks.”

Novak Djokovic vs Matteo Berretini prediction

Berretini will have his work cut after seeing the World No. 1’s form the entire year. He has not slowed down on any surface and has performed on an incredible level. His win against Nadal on clay, showed that he is undoubtedly the best player in the world right now.

With Berretini having a stellar grass season, he will look to take advantage of the points and keep them to a minimum. In the pyschological battle, Djokovic looks in a league of his own. His will to come back from 2 sets down is staggering to watch. The Italian will know that he will have to keep his head throughout the match if he needs to pull out 3 sets off the Serb.

Djokovic is a win away from creating history and at this moment, it is highly unlikely that he is stopped. Sunday, 11 July 2021 may be the day that the history books are rewritten once again.

Prediction: Djokovic in 4 sets
