Not the ideal Harry kane Backup: Daniel Levy should act fast and offload flop signing

Tottenham enjoyed another impressive campaign in the Premier League. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is yet to win a trophy with Spurs, but he has been consistent with top-four finishes. The manager’s efforts saw him rewarded with a new five-year contract.

Following the contract renewal of Pochettino, Levy also ensured that star striker Harry Kane was provided with a new one. After all, the striker has been in sublime form across the last three seasons, winning the Golden Boot in the last two.

Pochettino has rarely made any substandard signings for the club, but the one exception so far is Dutch striker Vincent Janssen. The striker joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar on a four-year contract in 2016. He was the top-scorer in the Eredivisie a year before that, scoring 27 goals in 34 appearances.

Janssen was brought in to offer support to Harry Kane, and he miserably failed to do so. In fact, it goes without saying that he was one of the worst signings of 2016.

The striker made 27 appearances for Spurs, scoring a measly 2 goals across that time. Tottenham had a tough time when Harry Kane succumbed to injury and yet, Janssen was unable to score like the English striker did.

He was loaned out to Fenerbahce the following year, and Spanish striker Fernando Llorrente was brought in from Swansea City, who proved to be a more fruitful signing.

He was mostly restricted to bench roles, but he did score 5 goals in all competitions whenever called upon. Janssen made 9 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig this time, scoring 4 goals and providing 2 assists in the process.

Fenerbahce are reportedly looking to sign Janssen on loan for another season, as they could use a striker like him. The 23-year-old certainly isn’t Premier League material, and with the likes of Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente in the squad, he will barely see the light of match days.

A move away from the club would certainly benefit both parties, with Levy looking to cash in on the unwanted surplus to bring in more signings.
