Norwich City Opinion: Why the Canaries should sign Mbaye Diagne?

According to a report from The Star, Championship winner Norwich City are interested in signing Galatasaray striker Mbaye Diagne.

The Senegalese, 27, has been a star in the Turkish Super Lig, scoring 28 goals so far this season. The report reveals that Galatasaray will demand around £17.2 million to part ways with their prized asset at the end of the season.

Norwich clinched the Championship title on the last day of the season, thanks to a 2-1 victory against Aston Villa. With that, they’ll head to the Premier League next campaign, where they will need to strengthen their squad to keep any hopes of surviving.

One of the primary reasons why the Canaries clinched promotion to the top-flight is because of Teemu Pukki. Pukki was a revelation for the club, scoring 29 goals and assisting 10 times in what turned out to be an incredible season. The Finn has led the attack brilliantly, but Norwich will need someone to support him up front in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke, who has had got his recruitment at the Carrow Road absolutely spot until now, needs to bring in a forward that can come up with goals consistently. Mbaye Diagne would be a fantastic addition the squad and the fact that he will come in after a prolific season with Galatasaray will be massive.

Diagne’s presence would not only be a massive boost to the forward line in terms of quality but would also bring the best out of the rest of the attackers. The Senegalese is not only a clinical finisher but is equally good at creating opportunities for his teammates. Blessed with good pace, the 27-year-old has the ability to beat the defenders with instant acceleration and dribbling skills.

The ex-Kasimpasa star is an absolute nightmare for defender due to his strength, power and burst of pace. Diagne possesses immense strength to hold up the ball and bring his teammates into the game. He’ll be an excellent fit in Farke’s system at Norwich, thriving in and around the players like Emi Buendia, Onel Hernandez, Marco Stiepermann and Mario Vrancic.

Verdict

Farke will have an intelligent secondary striker to his primary attacking weapon Pukki if he manages to sign Diagne from Galatasaray in the summer.

For a promoted team, spending big on a prolific striker like Diagne would be a statement of intent ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
