Norwich opinion: Should the Canaries beat the Blades for Kasey Palmer?

According to reports from Bristol Live, Championship high-flyers Norwich City and Sheffield Unitedare interested in signing £4million-rated Chelsea starlet Kasey Palmer in the summer.

Both Norwich and Sheffield have confirmed automatic promotion to the Premier League, following an impressive season in the second-tier and they have now set their sights on the 22-year-old England youth international as a part of their summer recruitment plans.

Palmer is currently out on loan at Bristol City in the Championship and the Robins have a chance to make his stay at Ashton Gate permanent, the Bristol Post understands.

However, with Premier League football on offer, the youngster might have his head turned by the prospect of playing in the top-flight. One of the brightest prospects to have emerged from Chelsea’s youth ranks, Palmer has been in the club’s loan army since 2016.

He played a key role for Huddersfield Town in their promotion-winning campaign in the Championship, contributing with 4 goals and 3 assists from 25 appearances in the league.

Palmer featured for the Terriers in the Premier League last season but he wasn’t able to make much of an impact and returned to Stamford Bridge after making just 4 appearances.

Palmer has subsequently enjoyed fruitful loan spells at Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and most recently at Bristol City. Despite making just a solitary start in the Championship since his move to Ashton Gate in January, the 22-year-old has managed 2 goals and an assist from 13 substitute appearances.

Hence, it is quite clear why Norwich City and Sheffield United want him in the summer, as the youngster has shown that he doesn’t necessarily need 90 minutes to make a difference.

To put things into perspective, Kasey Palmer is a really talented youngster and he would be a handy signing for both the newly-promoted clubs but Norwich City should look to get one over their rivals by striking a deal for him in the summer.

Palmer has all the attributes to establish himself as an important squad player or an impact player off the bench at Carrow Road and he might go on to play a role in the Canaries’ bid for survival in the Premier League.
