Norwich City Opinion: Why the Canaries should go all out for Domagoj Vida
According to a report from Turkish outlet Fanatik, newly-promoted Premier League club Norwich City have made a €10million bid for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida, who is also a transfer target for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves.
The Croatian, 30, impressed in the World Cup last summer and has established himself as a key member for Besiktas. The defender has a contract with the Turkish club until 2022, but he is yet to decide on his future.
Keeping that in mind, Norwich City must attempt to beat the cash-rich Wolves to the signature of Domagoj Vida, as manager Daniel Farke looks to strengthen his squad ahead of Premier League football next season.
The Canaries made their first signing of the summer upon their return to the top-flight, with Patrick Roberts joining on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Roberts, who has enjoyed loan spells with Celtic and Girona, is yet to taste Premier League football. Yet, Farke and co. taken a small gamble with his signing, but since it is a loan deal should work out in Norwich’s favour.
Similarly, the Norwich boss must take a punt on the experienced Domagoj Vida, who like Roberts hasn’t had a taste of Premier League football. The Croatian has immense experience of top-flight football and international pedigree, though.
Vida s a solid defender, great at winning aerial duels, full of heart in his challenges and has been a force for Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig. The 30-year-old is a no-nonsense, tough-tackling centre-back who never hesitates to put his body on the line and is always committed to the team’s cause.
He is good with the ball at his feet, can initiate attacks from the back and has a great leap which makes him a threat in the opposition box during set-pieces. The Croatian international will add real quality to the Norwich backline which lacks experience.

Timm Klose and Grant Hanley are the only defenders to have prior top-flight experience but if the Canaries are to be a resolute unit at the back next season, adding a defender of Vida’s quality would be the right move.
Verdict
Farke’s side needs a leader to carry them through with what could be a very difficult season in the Premier League. Vida could be that player for Farke and signing him would signal a statement from Norwich.
