Norwich City Opinion: Why the Canaries should sign Dean Henderson?

According to a report from the Pink Un, Norwich City are one of a host of clubs interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in the summer.

The likes of Leicester City and Bournemouth are also keen on the 22-year-old, who is currently on loan to Sheffield United in the Championship.

Dean Henderson has been excellent between the sticks for Sheffield United, playing a crucial part in the second meanest defence in the league this season. His brilliant form has been one of the major reasons why the Blades are second in the Championship table at the moment.

The report claims Manchester United will only sanction a new loan move for the England U21 international keeper should he get regular game time next season. That being said, Norwich City should do everything in their powers to sign Henderson this summer.

The fight for the top two in the Championship is still unbelievably open with Leeds United, Norwich City and Sheffield United—the trio really at the forefront of the automatic promotion mix.

Out of the trio, Norwich are in a strong position and have also displayed their ugly side of winning games when things aren’t going according to the plan.

And if the Canaries manage to earn promotion to the Premier League, the goalkeeping department will need to be addressed ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Daniel Farke brought Tim Krul to Carrow Road and the Dutchman has lived up to the expectations of the fans. Krul may have made some errors in goal but overall he has been a commanding presence in the box.

But Remi Matthews’ departure earlier this season coupled with Michael McGovern’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, a goalkeeper appears to be a priority for Daniel Farke.

Dean Henderson could be a perfect fir at the Carrow Road as he has excelled in his first ever season at Championship level, and was part of the Sheffield United side that beat Leeds United 1-0 last weekend to join Norwich in the automatic promotion places.

He has proven to be a superb addition for the Blades this term, keeping seven clean sheets in a row in what has been a fine run of form of late.

In fact, the 22-year-old shot-stopper spent last season on loan to Shrewsbury Town, alongside the Norwich pair Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris, and was impressive in the League One as well.

On the back of recent performances, few could argue that Henderson does not have the quality to play for Farke’s exciting Norwich side that is eyeing promotion.

Verdict

Henderson, who hasn’t played a single game for the Red Devils, has very little chance of ousting United’s no.1—David de Gea. Hence, it’s better for him to go out on loan again and continue his development.

A move to Norwich on a season-long loan would be perfect as the 22-year-old will compete with the highly-experienced Krul for the no.1 spot and test himself against England’s best teams, provided Farke’s men achieve promotion.
