Norwich City Opinion: Canaries should beat Sheffield United to sign Luis Advincula
According to reports from The Eastern Daily Press, Premier League new boys Norwich City and Sheffield United are interested in signing Peruvian international right-back Luis Advincula in the summer.
Eastern Daily Press understands that El Bocon, a renowned sports newspaper in Peru, has linked the 29-year-old with a move to Carrow Road and Bramall Lane at the end of the season.
Advincula, who was a part of Peru’s squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, played every minute of his nation’s group stage campaign and earned plaudits for his strong performances, despite the South American outfit failing to make it through to the knockout rounds.
A full international since his 2010, Advincula has a total of 70 international caps for Peru under his belt and played a key role in his nation’s third-place finishes in the 2011 and 2015 editions of the Copa America.
Advincula, though, has made a reputation for himself as a widely-travelled footballer, having enjoyed stints with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, Bursaspor in the Turkish Super Lig, Vitoria Setubal in the Portuguese league and most recently got relegated from the Spanish top-tier with Rayo Vallecano.
To add to that, he has also featured for some of the biggest South American clubs, including Ponta Preta in Brazil, Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina and UNAM Tigres in Mexico, who currently hold his full-time registration.
Essentially a right-back by trade, Advincula is also very much capable of operating as an out-and-out winger on the right and he currently holds the record for being the fastest footballer on the planet.
In March 2018, the Peruvian international clocked a top speed of 36.15 km/hr in the Mexican top-flight to beat Gareth Bale’s record.
Known for his lightning pace, energetic presence, sharpness, agility and game-reading abilities, Advincula is a modern-day offensive-minded flying full-back, who contributes equally to both attack and defence.
Blessed with high levels of stamina, the Peruvian patrols up and down the pitch constantly to support the attack with his powerful overlapping runs, while also tracking back to close down the opposition.
Apart from being a useful attacker with his well-rounded passing and crossing attributes, Advincula is also a very strong tackler, who is adept at coping effectively with the transitions in play, owing to his pace.
To put things into perspective, Luis Advincula is a player with plenty of experience at decent levels and he would be a welcome addition to either of the newly-promoted sides in the Premier League. However, Norwich City should try and get one over the Blades and strike a deal for the versatile right-sided player this summer.
Max Aarons has been a hugely influential presence for the Canaries down the right-hand side of the backline, with the youngster catching the eye in the Championship with his impressive contribution to both attack and defence.
One would expect the 19-year-old to make the step up to the Premier League gradually but Norwich might find themselves in a big hole should Aarons be sidelined with an injury. Ivo Pinto is out of contract in a month’s time, while Felix Passlack has returned to Borussia Dortmund upon the expiry of his loan spell.
Suffice to say, Norwich should not make the mistake of relying too heavily on 19-year-old Max Aarons as he is still very young and inexperienced at the highest level.
Although Advincula has never played in the Premier League, he has a lot of experience under his belt and Norwich can look at him as someone who could increase competition for places.

The Canaries need a big enough squad to thrive in the Premier League and the Peruvian veteran, though not a world-beater, can prove to be a useful signing for a reasonable price.
